"I have learned SO much in my year and a half of taking lessons with Josh Torvi at NYC Guitar School. He is such a patient, fun and highly skilled teacher. When I started taking lessons, I had a very rudimentary understanding of guitar and shied away from anything beyond the basics because I found it all so intimidating and complicated. But he is so encouraging and always pushes me to figure out the more complicated stuff—and I’m so glad he does. In summation, five stars, no notes. If you want to learn guitar, I cannot recommend him enough."
“I went from having no guitar skills to being a pretty awesome campfire guitarist in no time thanks to Josh Torvi and NY Guitar school. Josh is a terrific teacher – patient, kind, and talented. He’s an amazing guitarist who will teach you what you want to learn. I can’t recommend highly enough!”
“Amazing instructor—Josh Torvi. Our daughter begged us for lessons at age 9 and we were lucky enough to have Josh come for in home lessons. He’s taken her from an absolute novice to 1 year later playing the Beatles “Blackbird”, Lady Gaga “Shallow”, Metallica, Green Day, one Republic “Apologize”, and so many more. She is being taught music theory, reading tabs and reading notes. Now my son age 7 is begging for lessons too. She actually is more motivated for school because she loves these lessons with Josh so much. He treats her like a serious student and values her opinions- he is incredibly gifted with the tween set. We wake up in the morning to our daughter playing songs on the guitar and humming. What a great find!”
“We’ve had wonderful experiences with NYC Guitar School! My daughter first took their Guitar Camp a couple of years ago. She was a beginner player and they (Jen Elliott!) did everything possible to encourage and support her. Loving the guitar and rock band experience, she decided to take private lessons with Josh Torvi. Josh has been an amazing instructor. My daughter has been learning from him for over a year and we can’t say enough positive things. He has a natural way of teaching – balancing his own professional skilled instruction with allowing my daughter the freedom to pursue her individual musical tastes. His enthusiasm and talent shine through, as does his genuine caring of my daughter – consistently encouraging her as a budding musician and allowing her to find her own inner “voice.” It’s rare to find such a humble, gifted musician. We’re very lucky to have found him. Thank you Josh!”
“I just finished the Absolute Beginners ukulele class. Josh was an outstanding and supportive teacher. The workbook is so well written and helpful After just 10 lessons I am happily strumming away and plan to continue to the next level. Highly recommend!”
"Lao Tzu on his Dao Te Ching wrote, “When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is really ready… the teacher will Disappear.” On my own guitar path, I came to understand the meaning to Tzu words since I started learning guitar, or better yet, Music, with Josh Torvi. I am interested on learning many aspects of music: theory, composition, songwriting, repertoire, styles, technique and so forth. Josh has been a source of inspiration and motivation and supporting me to achieve all my endeavors. I am so thrilled with how much I am growing musically! As a teacher, Josh has shown not only an outstanding knowledge of the instrument, but also the ability to express and teach his craft in a way that is simple yet challenging. Then, I got to know so many other facets of Josh as an all-round musician. Josh is a talented composer, band leader, improviser, and performer. If you want to expand your guitar playing technique and creativity, studying guitar withJosh Torvi will be a wonderful path to take."
