"Our son's plans to go white water rafting and kayaking this summer were canceled due to the pandemic. We signed him up for NYC Guitar School camp instead and he told us he had "the best summer ever." Who else can say that about summer 2020?! He's even continued to rehearse weekly with kids he met at camp. The staff is well organized, engaging and supportive. Bravo NYC Guitar School."

"My child attended a 2 week session of NYC Guitar School summer camp. It was an amazing experience, from learning techniques and rock history, to songwriting, recording and the cornerstone last night performance by all the rock bands at a great rock venue near Times Square. The instructors are all top notch and Jen runs a great program. The 2 weeks flew; cannot recommend this program highly enough."

"My 10 year old daughter went to NYC Guitar School Rock Band day camp and enjoyed it so much. It honestly is the best thing that happened to her since Covid-19 / Quarantine started. She got to interact with kids her age, small group of 5, all wearing masks, the studio is clean, they are all social distancing. I am so happy they opened for in person camp. After this, we will definitely enroll her in classes. Shout out to Eddie for making the week extra fun."

"My daughter, 15, just completed her first week of virtual camp with NYC Guitar School. In all honesty, I wasn't sure the virtual experience would work for a rock band but it was amazing. My daughter loved it and the technology they used promoted a very collaborative experience. In the COVID world, I keep looking for silver linings and the creative potential for making music seems to be wide open. NYC Guitar School is enthusiastically looking for ways to tap that potential and encouraging students to enjoy the ride."

"My children have participated in a variety of lessons and camps through the years, but none of them have been as rewarding or enjoyable as the programs from NYCGS!! The teachers are amazing! They are extremely talented individuals who work hard to help each student reach their potential. Students not only improve their musical abilities, but learn to work as a band, supporting each other and working together. NYCGS has definitely made my children better musicians!"

"My daughter, age 15, has been attending NYC Guitar School Summer Camp for three years and my son has been going for two years doing both summer camp and year-round sessions. NYC Guitar School is an extraordinary place. It's not just that the music program is excellent, it is the culture that makes it so awesome. The self-confidence the kids get from this school is tremendous. I wish I could post before and after videos of my kids performing. In the beginning, they were a bit timid and nervous getting up and playing and now when they perform they get on that stage act as if they own it. My son on stage after his first performance threw his arms in the air and screamed: "I am so proud of myself!""

Details & FAQs

Virtual Camps

Our virtual rock bands combine the virtual classroom with a cloud based music studio called Soundtrap. Campers work together with their band and coach to choose, arrange and record songs together.  They also learn the basics of music production because they are recording themselves and also mixing their band track! A free premium one month membership to Soundtrap is included as part of camp.

Watch the video below to learn more about how the entire digital production process works and listen to the tracks that some of our students have created!

NOTE: Because of sound latency, band members are not playing at the same time. Instead, they will collaborate in their virtual classroom and then record their individual part into a shared group Soundtrap project.

Depends on the program!

Rock Guitar programs meet for 3 hours including a 15 minute screen and snack break.

Music Production camps meet from 10am-3pm with a one hour break for lunch.

They are busy!  They are learning and collaborating in their classroom, getting one on one instruction in breakout rooms, and they work on recording video to go along with their recorded and mixed track for the Friday show.

Here some elements of each camp week:

All-Camp Morning Meeting – Each morning begins with a short all-camp meeting via zoom for in-person and remote campers. Everyone gets a chance to connect for a few minutes before we head out to our individual classrooms.

Band Visits on Wednesday – On Wednesday campers will spend an hour visiting other bands via zoom.  It is an incredible way to practice performing, to connect and be inspired by other groups!

Rock Guitar campers will not perform on Band Visit Day. They will focus on visiting other bands for inspirations!

Epic Virtual Show for Friends & Family –

Every Friday afternoon, campers participate in an awesome virtual show for friends and family! Check out this link to see one of our shows from 2020.

Watch your performance on Youtube again & and again! – The shows are Livestreamed via zoom and Facebook Live, AND each song is also posted on Youtube.  Best camp souvenir ever!

Students will work with their coach and bandmates. These sessions mix group learning, breakout sessions for individual coaching, and independent study.  The coaches are live and working with the group for the entire morning and afternoon sessions.

Thursday: More rehearsal plus learn how to mix your tracks!
Friday: Regular camp day plus the Virtual Show and Listening Party – friends and family are invited to join! Your group’s videos will also be posted on Youtube!

We expect at a minimum for campers to learn 4-5 open chords, basic strumming patterns, and arrange and perform a song from memory at the show on Friday. More than that, our goal is to get beginners excited about playing guitar! The Rock Guitar Camp is designed to be a springboard to help them make real progress as guitar players.

Each group moves through our curriculum at a customized pace and Teen Rock Guitar groups often are able to learn multiple songs and graduate to the Near Beginner level by the end of the week.

Once your child completes a week of Rock Guitar camp, they are eligible to attend a Rock Band 101 camp! Start in Rock Guitar and stay all summer!

Rock Band and Rock Guitar students will need your instrument. Music Production students will need your DAW software downloaded on your computer.

NOTE: Both Ableton and LOGIC have FREE 90-day trials so you will not need to purchase the software up front.

These camps are small group, immersive experiences.  There is a maximum of 7 students per group.  In bands, we only book 1 bassist, keyboardist, drummer, and vocalist (if that is their only instrument).  We will book up to 4 guitarists if there is no bassist in the group.  For some advanced level Teen Rock Bands, we will only book up to 3 guitarists.

We book just one drummer per band.

Yes! Our world class teachers guide each group step-by-step for the entire camp day. These sessions mix group learning, breakout sessions for individual coaching, and independent study.

No, it’s super easy! The week before your camp starts, you will receive an email with the direct links to your virtual classroom. Your instructor will also email an invitation to join Soundtrap (unless you are part of the Advanced Digital Songwriting & Music Production class). Just follow the directions for Soundtrap and save your welcome email, and then click the link before camp begins. Advanced Music Production students just need to download Ableton on their computer before camp starts!

This is the number one question we get asked by new students. Meeting a teacher and other campers online can be both exciting and a bit daunting. But we’ll help you get ready step by step. We will connect you with your instructor several days before camp starts in case you have last minute questions. You will receive a detailed welcome email about one week before camp starts. Read through your welcome email for all the details!

And of course, if you have any questions we are standing by to help at 646-485-7244 ext 1 or via email us at

Sure! First, make sure that your equipment is ready for your lesson by going to a test meeting here. If you need to download an app or an extension, you’ll be prompted to do so. Just follow the prompts! If you have any questions at all, visit call us at 646-485-7244 ext. 1 or email us at We would LOVE to help you!

Oh, and of course you don’t want your first day of camp to be interrupted by technical issues! Give yourself some extra time before your first day of camp begins to make sure that your internet signal is strong and that your video and microphone are working. Watch this fun video for a step by step checklist to make sure that you are totally ready!

In-Person Camps

On the first day, please arrive up to 20 min early so that we have time to screen each camper and welcome them into the studio! On all following days, please arrive between 5-10min before the start of camp for regular check-ins and daily health screenings. Our staff will check students in at the lobby so that parents can drop off at the building entrance.

Please be on time so that your band can begin rehearsal on time!

NOTE: As camp gets closer, we will re-assess health and safety – if possible, we will allow teens to go off-campus for lunch with parent permission. All 15-17 year olds would be allowed off-campus in that scenario.

All campers should pack a lunch with drinks and anything they will need. They will not be able to leave and purchase anything once the camp day starts.

Depending on weather and other variables, your coach will walk the band to an outdoor space to eat lunch together. If eating outside is not feasible, they will eat together in the studio room. Campers will be required to stay with their coach during lunch regardless of age.

Eating outside will allow band members to maintain a social distance, preserve a “masks at all times while in the studio” guideline, and will allow for a mid-day uv light sanitizing of the studio room.

All Rock Bands Camps are at Funkadelic Studios, 209 W 40th St 5th Floor, New York, NY 10018.

All Rock Guitar for Absolute Beginners Camps are NYC Guitar School Midtown Studio, 251 West 30th St, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001

Parents will pick up and drop-off campers at the entrance of the building and campers will receive a temperature check and screening. You will have your teacher’s cell phone number and receive a text when they are ready for pick-up/drop-off in front of the building.

The teacher will give a temperature check and health screening upon arrival.

First and foremost, they should bring their sincere desire to rock!

They should also bring:
Lunch, water, and drinks or snacks.
Guitarists & bassists should bring their instruments, cable, tuner, pick and any effects pedals.
Computer/tablet for virtual band visits, morning meeting, and recording in Soundtrap

NOTE: We believe that protecting young musicians’ hearing is IMPORTANT. We will provide ear plugs to all Rock Band Campers. Please encourage them to WEAR ear plugs during rehearsals!

Extended Day is offered for 8-11 yr olds only. Early Drop-off is not available. If you would like to add Booster Lessons, Extended Day, or additional sessions, please email!

If your child is a complete beginner and would like to attend multiple sessions this summer, you can sign up for ONE week of Rock Guitar and additional weeks of Rock Band 101 or Music Production. We recommend Booster Lessons if possible for Rock Guitar students who plan to go right into Rock Band 101.

No problem!  Select “Reserve Instrument” on your sign-up form for $30 per session and we will have an instrument waiting for your child.

Rock Band students are not able to leave instruments overnight because we do not have a dedicated locked space.
