Julian Barthold

Julian Barthold first picked up the guitar at age 11 and almost instantly discovered his passion for music. It was not long thereafter that he came to New York City Guitar School for lessons and Summer Rock Camp, which set him on his path towards interning and now teaching at NYCGS! Julian earned his BA from Sarah Lawrence College, where he studied music composition, theory, history, performance, and some production. Throughout his many years of playing, he has honed his skills in styles including (but not limited to) Rock, Folk, Jazz, Blues, Metal, Indie, Funk, and Experimental. He has performed with many different bands and ensembles over the years and enjoys performing solo as well.

Julian is also a songwriter and composer, and believes in teaching the guitar not only in terms of technique, but as a means of broader creative expression. As a teacher, he uses this philosophy to help students build their skills while also recognizing their uniqueness as musicians, whether they are beginners or longtime players. He is open-minded in his approach and is eager to cater to the interests of students while also helping to broaden their musical horizons. Julian is honored to be part of the NYCGS community, and looks forward to helping you achieve your musical goals!
