Dan Emery is the founder of New York City Guitar School. Since launching the school in 2004, Dan’s team has helped over 15,000 students—from absolute beginners to advanced players—grow their skills, confidence, and creativity through structured, student-centered learning. NYC Guitar School has grown into a thriving community offering classes, private lessons, camps, rock band programs and events, in four NYC locations and online, all built around a powerful mission: coaching personal greatness, one lesson at a time.

Dan is the author of six books, including the Amazon category best-seller Guitar for Absolute Beginners and The Ultimate Guitar Workbook: A Journal of Personal Greatness One Lesson at a Time. He writes regularly about effective practice, learning strategies, and building resilience through music at NYCGuitarSchool.com/blog.

Dan’s passion for human potential led him to the Coach program at Heroic, which has profoundly impacted his life as a father, husband, and business owner. After witnessing the transformative impact of Heroic tools and frameworks in his life and business, Dan is a proudly certified Heroic coach and workshop instructor.

In addition to running the school and coaching, Dan is an active mentor in the NYC chapter of Entrepreneurs’ Organization, where he supports fellow small business owners through the EO Accelerator program, and is also an experienced moderator with Braver Angels, America’s largest grass roots organization to promote positive dialogue across political differences.

Dan holds degrees from the University of Idaho and Columbia University Teachers College. He lives in New York City with his wife and three kids—and still loves to play and practice guitar!
