Step by step guitar classes for teens, from beginning guitar to advanced rock band.
Whether the student is only thinking about picking up a guitar, or has played for years, they need proven teachers and classes to nurture their love of music and help them build guitar skills for a lifetime.
Our expert and experienced coaches are chosen for their warmth, patience and inspiration. Students are guided from holding a guitar for beginners, to advanced scales and music school prep for advanced students. Whether students desire to study music in college or play professionally, or are just exploring a fun and enriching hobby, our goal is for each student to experience the joy that comes with making music and growing in skill over time and practice, which will benefit them for a lifetime.
As students progress, they take the stage and work together to create memorable shows. In fact, last year we held more than fifty student events across the city! Group guitar classes for teens are available in our four NYC locations (Midtown, Upper East Side, Park Slope and Astoria).

In fact, many of our students end up playing in bands on their own, outside the school.
GUITAR CLASSES AND ROCK BANDS
NYC Guitar School makes learning simple–step by step and song by song, in structured and motivating classes with a skilled coach. Need to miss a class? Stay on track with extensive makeup classes and online resources. Make friends and get support in your class or free study halls. By Week 10 you’ll play multiple songs and have the skills to enjoy guitar for a lifetime–or to continue to advanced study.
Teens Guitar Level I–Where guitar careers begin–the world’s most effective guitar class for beginners. Group classes at NYC Guitar School give you a structured, step-by-step approach in a friendly, supportive atmosphere. If you have the desire to play guitar, you will be successful.
Teens Guitar Level II–This class focuses on the most vital element of great guitar playing – Rhythm! Right hand techniques like palm muting, scratching and arpeggiating make songs sound like they do on the albums that we love so much. This class is for students who have completed our level one class and are ready to take it to the next level.
Teens Guitar Level III–Learn and play mixed strums, riffs, arpeggios, bass runs and first barre chords in the style of artists like The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Nirvana, REM, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC and more. For students who have completed our level II class or who have otherwise learned basic open chords and strumming patterns.
Teens Guitar Level IV–You’ve learned so much in the first three classes of the beginners series. Now solidify your skills and gain increased comfort and confidence with the guitar, while gaining a deeper understanding of chords, strums, slash chords, mixed single notes and strumming, and much more. The class includes a massive chord review, a massive strum review, chart reading, rhythm reading, eighth and sixteenth note strums and tab reading, in the context of great songs like “Wild Horses”, “Little Wing” and more.
Teens Guitar Level V–Master all sorts of barre chords, power chords, vamps and complex strums with songs by Tracy Chapman, Jet, The Eagles, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Dylan and more. For students who have completed our Level IV class or who have otherwise learned bass runs, basic arpeggios, the F chord, etc.
