Funk Guitar Technique (Adults/Teens)

September 23 @ 6:30 pm
|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating until September 30, 2020

This drop-in class is designed to help people learn exercises, riffs and some of the underlying theory behind the funk songs they know and love. We'll decode some the techniques that give guitarists like Eddie Hazel (Parliament Funkadelic), Nile Rodgers (Chic), Jimmy Nolen (James Brown) and many others their groovy guitar voices. The focus will be on identifying elements and techniques that give funk music its unmistakable sound. Each class will focus on one specific element/technique, with a warm-up exercise and a real song application. We'll also make sure to see funk's influence in several other genres, such as classic rock, hard rock, pop and even a bit of jazz/fusion. PREREQUISITES: Have gone through the 5 beginner classes, ideally some lead guitar, knowledge and experience counting and strumming 16th notes, some comfort with left hand scratching.  Intermediate level teens are also welcome in this class! Link will be provided before class. Sign up with the link below!
