7 WEEKS + 1 EPIC SHOW
Rehearse weekly over seven weeks with a motivating band coach in fully equipped professional studios. Make music, make friends...and then play a show for your family and friends in a NYC venue with professional sound and lights.

Two Age Groups: Ages 8-12 and 13-17

Each class session includes 2 hours of rehearsal in a professional music studio.

Seven weekly rehearsals, plus a show date

Tuition is $650 for first time NYCGS students and $590 for returning students.

What is the NYC Guitar School community like?

Warm, positive and hard working! Whether kids and teens are honing their skills in class, cheering on the other bands, or taking advantage of open mics and band showcases, they will be surrounded by positive people who are growing as musicians and as people. In fact, many of our older teens started in private lessons as absolute beginners--and many students end up playing in bands on their own, outside the school. Does this sound like it might be the right place for you and your family? Then...it probably is!

Where are rehearsals held?

The NYCGS Rock Rooms are located in the iconic Music Building at 584 8th Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Artists such as Madonna, Metallica, The Strokes, Parliament, David Byrne, Interpol, Patti Smith, Joey Ramone, Billy Idol, The New York Dolls, Lou Reed (and many more!) have rehearsed in the building over the years. It is a community of working musicians, and we are thrilled to be a part of it!

Can I start a band with my friends?

Yes! If you (or your kid or teen) already have a group of friends who want to form a band, you can start a custom band. We'll arrange a band coach, rehearsal rooms, show dates and any extra lessons that some band members might need. Email rockband@NYCGuitarSchool.com for more info.

What are the skill requirements to join Rock Band?

For all instruments, at least one year of playing experience, ability to play through complete songs, and ability to understand basic song charts. Need lessons? We have those!

For guitar,?teen students should also be familiar with open and barre chords and read chord diagrams and tablature. Kid students need not be familiar with barre chords.

For bass, students should be familiar with basic techniques and read tablature & chord charts.

For keyboards, students should be familiar with basic techniques and know chords by name as well as notation.

For drums, students should be familiar with basic drum rudiments.

For vocalists,?either have some formal experience, or be really good at singing in the shower. ?You will need to memorize lyrics!

What should students bring to practice?

Guitarists and bassists, please bring your own guitar or bass, cable and tuner. ?Drummers, just bring your sticks. Keyboardists and vocalists, just bring your rock and roll self. (A limited number of electric and bass guitars are available for use at the school for an additional fee of $30 per class series.)
