Two-Week Summer Rock Band for Kids 8-11: Intermediate & Advanced Players
Is your child ready to be a rock star?
Okay, maybe they just want to play like a rock star, experience what it's like to be in a band, and play a live show!
During this intensive two-week program, your child will rock out with others under the patient and expert guidance of an experienced instructor. Students will put together a set of popular songs, including student requests, then rehearse in a fully equipped studio with guitar and bass amps, P.A., and drum kit. Your child will also visit a professional guitar repair shop, learn to listen to music like a professional musician, and attend breakout instrument instruction sessions and a songwriting workshop. At the end of their rock band experience, students will show off their skills in a live show for family and friends! We'll videotape the show and post it on You Tube, too, so that you can share it with friends.
Skill and Equipment Requirements:
For guitar, students should be comfortable playing through complete songs and be familiar with open chords, with barre chords preferred. Bring your own electric guitar, tuner, strap, and cable. Amplifiers are provided.
For bass, students should be familiar with basic techniques and be able to play or sing through complete songs. Bring your own electric or bass guitar, tuner, strap, and cable. Amplifiers are provided.
For drums, students should be familiar with basic techniques and be able to play through complete songs. Just bring your sticks!
For vocalists and keyboardists, students should be familiar with basic techniques and be able to play or sing through complete songs. Just bring yourself!
A limited number of electric and bass guitars are available for use at the school for an additional fee of $15 per week. Call 646-485-7244 to reserve an instrument before the program starts.
- Classes are held on the 4th, 7th, 8th and 11th floors of The Recording and Rehearsal Arts Building on West 30th Street in Manhattan. This is a studio-filled building used by local and touring professional musicans such as Public Enemy, Alicia Keys, Black Flag, Taking Back Sunday, David Byrne, Brittney Spears, Steely Dan and many more.
- Drop-off is between 9:30am and 10:00am. You can bring your child up to the 11th floor lounge personally, but because parking in midtown can be difficult we provide curbside drop--a counselor will be available at the the front of the building to bring children up to class.
- Pick-up is between 2:00pm and 2:30pm. Curbside pick up also available.
- Kids Rock Band Camp lasts from 10am to 2pm, including 3 hours of class time, a 1/2 hour lunch, and two 15 minute breaks during which the kid campers visit older and more experienced bands.
- Campers need to bring a pack lunch.
- Staff-student ratio is at least one teacher or counselor for every three campers! Our teachers are amazing!
- Each camper gets a NYC Guitar School T-Shirt.

- CREATE YOUR OWN CAMP: Put together a group of four or more campers and we'll create a custom camp on the dates that work best for you!
