Introduction to Jewish Music for Guitar

Limited to ten students. Ten weekly one-and-one-half-hour sessions. $ 287.00.

LISTEN to the essential artists and styles of Jewish Music. LEARN and DISCUSS the history and culture the songs came from. PLAY some of the most beloved and important songs on your guitar, including songs by Debbie Friedman, Shlomo Carlebach, Isreali Folksongs and MORE.LISTEN, LEARN and PLAY in the New Year.

The class will be taught by Rabbi Joshua Yuter, the founder of on-line guide to Jewish Guitar site yutopia (yutopia.yucs.org). The curriculum is a collaboration between Jewish music standout Eric Komar, who performs and teaches Jewish music at synagogues, JCCs, and Hillels nationwide (www.komarmusic.com) and George Robinson (http://cine-journal.blogspot.com/), who is the author of the critically acclaimed Essential Judaism: A Complete Guide to Beliefs, Customs and Rituals (Pocket Books, 2000) and Essential Torah: An Introduction to the Five Books of Moses (Schocken Books, 2006). George is also the music critic for Jewish Week, the largest Jewish newspaper in North America.

For this course you should be already be familiar with basic open and barre chords and basic strums. Bring your guitar to Hebrew Tabernacle (directions are at: www.hebrewtabernacle.org) Tuesday nights beginning October 9th! Tuition is $287 for ten weekly sessions and includes all materials.
