Emily Forst
Emily comes from Wisconsin, where she obtained a B.F.A. in Music
Composition and Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
While there, she studied classical guitar with Rene Izquierdo and jazz
guitar with Don Linke. Emily has played in a diverse set of bands for
the past ten years, from her first punk rock group “The Sensitive Men”
to reggae and Malian blues band “Scorcher”. She is also a classically
trained pianist, violinist, and has sung in opera as a coloratura
soprano.
Since moving to New York in 2007, Emily has been active in the city’s
musical scene. She created the NYC Classical and Acoustic Guitar
Group and has continued to study privately with Guitar Foundation of
America competition winner, Kevin Gallagher. She is also an active
musician, and regularly performs both classical guitar repertoire, and
her own compositions.
Emily is, above all, a passionate teacher and is thrilled when her
students feel good playing songs they’ve always loved!
